Women have played an incredible role in shaping Airbus to be the Aerospace leader of today.
Most notably, during the Second World War in 1943, Broughton's 6,000 strong workforce, which were mostly women, worked 12-hour shifts on wartime production lines and eventually broke the record for the fastest to build a Wellington bomber in under 24 hours.
Coming from all walks of life, many of the women started off without any engineering experience, but quickly learnt the ropes. In total, 5,786 aircraft were built in Broughton during the war. At its peak, the factory was turning out 28 Wellington bombers a week.
